Tutorial: Coloring Transformers by Dzorek Tutorial: Coloring Transformers by Dzorek
I apologize for the huge file!

I'm not going to lie, this to me foreverrr. A few hours at least. xD

I asked you guys what kind of coloring tutorial you'd like to see and the majority said that they'd like to see how I color Transformers. Though I have to say, after doing this, I realized that coloring Transformers is pretty much the same as how I color my dragons. Just without the fancy white highlights 'n stuff. But I WILL make a dragon/creature tutorial for those who asked for one. c:

This is my coloring process in the program Photoshop CS4.

:star:HERE ARE THE BRUSHED I MENTIONED IN THE TUTORIAL:star:
The "Splerdge" Brush can be found here: [link]
(It also comes with a few other brushes)

Here's the Z-Brush Tool Presets: [link]
(Includes the Rake and Glow brush)

But seriously you guys. Fancy brushes don't really play a huge role when it comes to coloring. They're things that you get to play with because IT'S REALLY FUN PLAYING WITH NEW FANCY SHIT. (x

I guess my real "secret" to my coloring lies within all the crazy color balance layers and gradients that I use. And I'm really sorry if that entire part of the tut was confusing. xD
Really I am. I love playing with layers and stuff, and don't always know what I'm doing when I do. It's all fun and experimentation to me! So it was really hard trying to explain the process of how I do them.

But it works for me, and I hope you guys found this helpful! :)

If you have ANY QUESTIONS. ANY AT ALL about the tutorial, or a certain step, please please PLEASE feel free to ask me about it in either a note or comment. Comments are better because then others who might be having the same problem of have the same question can read and see the solution!

Thanks again to all of my new fans and watchers. I appreciate you all. ;u;

Thank you!

AH-HA~ Great tutorial right there !
I'm still in practice regarding the TFP mechs and this will surely help a great deal
on coloring matters. TwT even tho I end up doing flat ones because my meager skills make me shoo away in the last minute *sob*

thanks for creating this tutorial~ <3

Great job on demonstrating this, it helped me some, but i still get stuck on the 'line-art' part of it.
I tend to be more of a color artist than a line-artist. But this did help!

Thanks for doing this!

Sorry it's taken me so long to reply- I've been extremely busy...

But yes, turning the picture grey is supposed to help you see the contrast in your lighting. By doing that, you can see what areas need to be helped with bringing out lighter areas or use it to help create darker tones.

in part four....
are those requirements for the curves and adjustment layers always the same?
from step 1 to step 4?
if so then I guess I can make a shortcut... because then you have to apply the two gradients and later again adjustment layer : D

Haha. <3
And I actually hadn't planned on making a tutorial using KO. But Since I use so many layers for my work, it was kinda easy to just take the .psd file and translate that into that of a guide. Which worked out pretty well I think!

Thankss. c':

NOICE. i gotta say that not only is this a very helpful tutorial, but it's also a well designed tutorial (if that even makes sense, lol)

i'm always interested in seeing how other people color their artwork, and it's kinda interesting to see how you finish yours. i think i'll definitely keep that greyscale thing in mind for future art pieces of mine, especially since i've noticed lately that i either make things with extreme contrast or just not at all. Thanks for some interesting tidbits of info!

That does make sense! And thanks for noticing that! lol. Designing it to look at least presentable was what took time in the making of it.

And you are quite welcome! I hope the information I've provided here helps you out with future pieces of art in the future! c:

It's just a bit hard for me to understand all of this xD
